We have built a secure, anonymous, and private Matrix server designed for hardened communications.
No phone number. No email. No metadata. No recovery backdoors. No persistent chat data.
Ephemeral by design.
You deserve a chat platform that doesn’t collect you. Choose your Matrix client - FluffyChat, Element, or any other compatible app, connect to our server, and start conversations that can redact automatically. Unlike standard Matrix setups, ours is built to support this functionality by default along with hardened extras.
All messages and data are end-to-end encrypted in line with the Matrix protocol. Only you and the recipient can read them.
| What sets our Ephemere server apart from a typical Matrix server? | |
| Matrix Homeserver | Ephemere does not federate our server by any means, you're kept within the walls of our server only, no leaks into the wider Matrix structure. No central company controlling infrastructure. |
| No Phone Number or Email address | Ephemere does not require any personal information, most Matrix servers require an email address for password reset etc. |
| 12 hour automatic redaction | To our knowledge, no other Matrix server offers automatic redaction for all messages and media, including emojis and stickers. |
| 2 day message retention | Ephemere ensure all data older than 2 days is removed from our servers, although all messages are end to end encrypted, we go the extra steps to ensure we keep data to an absolute minimum. |
| TOR access | Ephemere provide access to the Ephemere server through both Tor and the clear web, all routed over an encrypted tunnel for a higher standard of anonymity. |
| Minimal logs | Ephemere does not log your data. The only logs we retain are short-lived, rotated logs used to verify that data is removed properly and to help protect you. We use them for security and operational integrity only. Server logs are extremely minimal and work on a 10min rotation and/or 50kb maximum, which is tiny. |
| NO IP address logs | EPHEMERE does not log your IP address, even when you use the clearnet option. |
| LUKS encrypted server | Ephemere servers use LUKS full-disk encryption for all storage, giving us layered protection through encryption at multiple levels. Even though we know the message itself is encrypted E2E, we don't take risks. |
| Weekly device cleanups (optional) | Weekly forced logouts clear device caches and sessions, requiring each device to log in again with just a username and password. It’s designed for people who don’t want to think about security - we handle it for you. |
| Registration tokens | Single-use registration tokens are valid for 24 hours, helping keep the system closed and protected against abuse with rate limiting in place. |
| NO message recovery | Ephemere is designed to deliver the most ephemeral chat experience possible. The goal is simple: no data should remain. It’s built for privacy-conscious users who care deeply about their information, and we save nothing. |
| Weekly security tips | Weekly tips and tricks to secure your device. |
Standard Matrix homeservers are designed to store and retain data; ours is built to avoid creating that data in the first place. Instead of depending on policies, review processes, or promises about how information will be handled later, privacy is baked into the system architecture from the start. That means the service is engineered so there is as little information as possible to capture, process, or accidentally log.
In practical terms, there’s nothing to “clean up” after the fact because the sensitive data never exists in a usable form on the server. No message content is collected, no meaningful metadata is retained, and no recovery keys are stored.
If data is ever requested, there is nothing of value to provide — not because it was hidden away, but because it was never kept in the first place.
